Yes, I know Phil Collins didn’t write it.
That won’t stop me from entertaining my adolescent self by replacing every instance of the word “love” with “fudge” in pop songs.
Try it.

Dysolution - Untitled Track 1

Going through a big box of CDs recently, I found a disc marked “Dysolution Pre-Production Mix 1/8/2000.” It’s a rough mix of a demo that never was, from a group of 20-year-olds who couldn’t find the money or time to finish it.

Giving it a listen again, after more than 10 years, I had to chuckle to myself. It’s angry music made by angry kids. We thought it was awesome at the time. To listen to it now is to wish we would’ve done more takes and I would’ve had some singing lessons. It’s not awful, though.

There are only two full songs and half of another on this disc. I never could seem to write lyrics that I was satisfied with, and the band never went anywhere as a result. We had a pretty good time jamming in the basement, though, while it lasted.

And I kept the name.

Did you know that 50 million light years away from Earth, there’s a star made completely of diamonds?

Women are more efficient social networkers but according to a study by Indiana University sociologist Gail McGuire, they’re not going to get the opportunities.

This is probably not news to many, but I find a lot of truth in her study. There is a sort of “hording” mentality with male executives, a…

Did the study account for whether they had washed their vaginas?

You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught (South Pacific)

This quick little song caused a huge controversy when the show was first produced. The Georgia state legislature even drafted a bill banning the song, which deeply offended their Southern sensibilities:

…two state congressmen said the song was offensive propaganda “in the midst of a fine piece of entertainment” and contained “an underlying philosophy inspired by Moscow.” They also said that “intermarriage produces half-breeds. And half-breeds are not conducive to the higher type of society…In the South, we have pure blood lines and we intend to keep it that way.”

Fortunately, Rogers & Hammerstein refused to cut the song, and the legislature backed down. Highlighting Lieutenant Cable’s struggle with the prejudice he was taught against his heart and common sense, it’s a very progressive message for a massively popular show that was written right after World War II.

Younger Than Springtime (South Pacific)

For @blondediva11. It was really cool to be able to sing with a 30-piece orchestra.

That’s a wrap.
Despite the fact that it made me miss CHSH, it was a blast.
